This project pays homage to a circa 1930, old Florida cottage that was destroyed during Hurricane Michael. It rests atop Beacon Hill, in Port St. Joe, Florida and directly overlooks the Gulf.
The goal of this project was to incorporate details of the previous structure into the new home. Maximizing views was very important to the owner, which was achieved by creating a large front porch with access and view that had the potential to blur the line between the indoors and out.
This project involved the challenge of maintaining a small footprint due to lot constraints, but creating a space that didn’t feel small and claustrophobic. This was achieved using light colors and creating transparency by introducing an abundance of glass to open up the space.
